A new and fresh approach to training search and rescue personnel with additional leadership skills in the area of public safety.
A two- day program with a completely new textbook that is specifically for search and rescue and not just another leadership book.
- Team Leadership is an extension of basic search and rescue (SAR) skills by another means, i.e. a Team Leader is simply the most proficient, competent and creditable at SAR and search skills. The best search and rescue plans will fail unless the best Team Leader (and team members) are selected.
- Probability of Detection (POD) is the Team Leader's mission. Probability of Area (POA) “where to look” is the responsibility of Search Base "Plans Function." “Base” gives the Team Leader his/her "task order" and a "brief."
- The “brief” contains what SAR Management wants done in the field, AND the Team Leader decides the tactics in the field. The Team Leader must have the latitude to make time and circumstance search methods/tactics decisions.
- Receive a briefing during the operational period briefing, use the SMEAC order, the 6-Step Process to plan your assigned area. Make decisions using the OODA loop, brief your team, navigate, communicate, document, investigate, aggressively search, recognize and protect potential evidence, monitor the wellbeing of your team and lead.
